We wanted to share this video footage of the recent visit to Syria by Canadian Red Cross Secretary General and CEO, Conrad Sauvé, and Director of Emergencies and Recovery for International Operations, Hossam Elsharkawi. The Canadian Red Cross has been providing support to its sister society, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), as it continues to deliver much needed humanitarian aid to people affected by the ongoing conflict.

The Syrian Arab Red Crescent has a key role in distributing food and non-food items inside Syria. The visit included a tour of the distribution centre where items are received and then distributed to families. SARC is also providing medical care through mobile health clinics, and ambulance service.

Conrad Sauvé and Hossam Elsharkawi met with SARC volunteers and workers and expressed their admiration for their courage and commitment to deliver aid, despite dangers. Since the crisis began, 34 members of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent have lost their lives while on duty, while others have been injured.

The Canadian Red Cross is encouraging Canadians to support these humanitarian efforts by donating to the Syrian Crisis Fund
