Red Cross Red Crescent aid workers are busy setting up tents and unloading supplies in Azraq, Jordan that will serve as a field hospital for Syrian refugees. The hospital will consist of several tents and will include the necessary equipment to offer inpatient and outpatient health care to a population of 50,000 Syrian refugees once the new camp opens. The medical team, including Canadian personnel, will be caring for a large number of women and children, who are expected to make up as much as 70% of the refugee population residing in the Azraq camp.

The Canadian, Finnish, German and Norwegian Red Cross societies are working together on this Emergency Response Unit (ERU) deployment to build and run the hospital which is expected to be in operation for at least one year.

The Azraq refugee camp, located in the Jordanian desert, could shelter up to 130,000 refugees from Syria.
