Canadian Red Cross water safety experts have been meeting with our partner, Momstown, across Ontario to help moms learn more about how to keep their children safe around the water. Take a look at these photos from our workshops in Barrie and Milton to see how much fun water safety can be!
At the Red Cross, we understand how quickly a drowning can happen – it can take mere minutes for a child to drown in just inches of water. We want to share with you safety tips to help your family be safe and have fun around the water.
- Wear a lifejacket if you plan to be in, on, or around the water. If there’s an accident and you don’t have your lifejacket on, you won’t have enough time to put it on.
- If you don’t know how to swim, enroll in a swim program. Programs are available for babies, children and adults.
- Never leave children unattended near water. A child drowning can happen so quickly that all it takes is for a parent to turn their back for just a few minutes.
- Establish pool rules and enforce them with both adults and children.
