Every day, we publish a photo to show the Red Cross at work across the country or around the world. Do you have a photo to share? Let us know!
When it comes to communications, new technology doesn't necessarily trump old. Last week, the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, John Crosbie, in his role as Patron of the Canadian Red Cross presented a special award to the Avalon Radio Amateurs Club (known as AVRAC) to thank them for their service. This volunteer club partners with the Red Cross to provide radio communications during disasters when cell service may be disrupted, as well as at the annual St. John's Regatta. In the photo, the president of the club, Bob Turnbull, accepts the award from the Lieutenant Governor. It was presented as part of March is Red Cross Month celebrations.
