Photo Tuesday - Red Cross workers in Haiti help two beneficiaries paint new home

*Guest blog by Nicole Robicheau, Canadian Red Cross delegate in Haiti

Every Tuesday, we publish a photo to show Red Cross at work across the country or around the world. Do you have a photo to share? Let us know!

Lofira Alexi, 70, and her husband Tervilien Cherubin, 69, lost their house in the devastating earthquake last year. Their new home is now one of more than 4,100 shelters built so far by the Canadian Red Cross in the country. The goal is to provide 7,500 families with secure places to live. We’re more than halfway there!

The beneficiaries are also given paint to not only protect the wood, but to give them a chance to participate in the process.  They get to choose which colours they want their house painted and are also given lessons on how to paint. Alexi couldn’t stop hugging and thanking the Red Cross delegates for providing her and her husband with a safe place to sleep each night.
