Photo of the Day: Remembering the Halifax Explosion

Every day, we publish a photo to show Red Cross at work across the country or around the world. Do you have a photo to share? Let us know!

Canadian Red Cross volunteers participated in a commemorative ceremony today to mark the anniversary of the 1917 Halifax Explosion. This disaster, caused by the collision between a ship filled with explosives and another vessel in the Halifax harbour, killed and injured thousands of people and destroyed many buildings in the city. It was the first civil disaster response by the Canadian Red Cross in Nova Scotia (and the first in Canada).
