The Canadian Red Cross has launched the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal to respond to those affected by ongoing conflict in the country. Canadians wishing to make a donation can do so online by clicking here: Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
The Red Cross has been responding to the unrest in Ukraine since its onset in November 2013. The Ukrainian Red Cross has recruited and trained new volunteers, distributed materials about emblem use and protection and the Red Cross Movement’s Fundamental Principles through leaflets and mass media, liaised with hospitals and ambulance service and met frequently with authorities and law enforcement agencies. Ukrainian Red Cross response teams remain on duty day and night, continuing to preform emergency health and first aid activities. This action has been made possible through financial and technical support from Red Cross Movement partners.
Donations made to the Canadian Red Cross are being used to strengthen the Ukrainian Red Cross’ emergency preparedness and response capabilities. Priority areas include enhancing the readiness of its first aid teams, the provision of psychosocial support and restoring family links services. Donations will also support the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in promoting humanitarian values and principles and respect for medical services and the Red Cross emblem among public authorities.
