While medical, administration and other disaster response experts were working around the clock to set up the tented hospital, Arges was clearing rubble and debris with the Philippines' Department of Public Works. While working to clear roads through central Ormoc, on hard-hit Leyte Island, he stumbled and broke his arm.

Red Cross field hospital opens and treats first patient

November 21, 2013 - The Red Cross health emergency response unit in Ormoc, on the island of Leyte, opened its doors Thursday morning, 48 hours after beginning construction. Three-month-old Raymart Recart was immediately transferred from the lobby of the Ormoc District Hospital, becoming the newly erected field hospital's first patient.
