L’Isle-Verte, January 24, 2014 – Today, the Red Cross has started to accept donations to raise funds to help those affected by the intense fire in L’Isle-Verte, which occurred during the night of January 22-23, 2014. The “L’Isle-Verte Fund” will be used to meet the essential needs of evacuees and all those affected by the disaster. A preliminary estimate of the requirement has been set at a minimum of $50,000.

“Red Cross volunteers have been at the Moisson d’Arts primary school since 3 a.m. on the night of January 23. Yesterday, volunteers interviewed some 20 of those affected by the disaster, including people evacuated from homes close to the Résidence du Havre. The assessment of requirements will continue in cooperation with the health and social services officials of the Agence de la santé et des services sociaux,” noted Pascal Mathieu, acting Red Cross Director General in Quebec.

In addition to emergency relief, including accommodation, clothing and food, the following needs can also be addressed: dental prostheses, hearing aids, mobility aids, eyeglasses and so on.

“As with all other funds of this kind, administrative costs will not exceed 5%. We thank all our donors in advance for their generosity,” added Mr. Mathieu. He also took the opportunity to express his most sincere condolences, on behalf of the Red Cross, to the families of those who have suffered loss.
