Global Affairs Canada will match individual donations to Canadian Red Cross up to $10 million

The Canadian Red Cross wishes to thank Global Affairs Canada following today’s announcement that it will match donations to the Earthquake in Türkiye and Syria Appeal. The Government of Canada will match every donation made by individual Canadians to the Red Cross appeal between February 6-22, 2023, up to a maximum of $10 million.

Donations will support the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in its response to the immediate and ongoing humanitarian needs caused by the earthquakes. When the earthquakes struck, Red Cross teams mobilized immediately and continue to provide emergency support to people impacted by the disaster. Teams from the Turkish Red Crescent and Syrian Arab Red Crescent are on the ground providing vital humanitarian aid to people in need. Money raised will provide immediate relief, ongoing recovery efforts, resiliency, and preparedness activities in impacted and surrounding areas.

“There are significant humanitarian needs after the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, and I want to thank Canadians who have donated in support of the emergency response underway,” said Conrad Sauvé, president and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross “We are grateful to the Government of Canada for their commitment and hope that the announcement to match funds encourages individuals in Canada to donate in support of those impacted by the devastating earthquakes, as they are able.”

Canadians wishing to make a donation to the Earthquake in Türkiye and Syria Appeal can do so online at www.redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
