WINNIPEG (July 9) – Canadian Red Cross volunteers are travelling to a number of Manitoba communities affected by flooding to see what help is needed as people recover from flooding.
A Red Cross outreach team is in Elkhorn today, meeting with families whose homes were damaged by floodwaters in the past two weeks to find out what assistance the residents require. Teams have already visited Virden and will be in Melita, Pipestone, Reston and St. Lazarre through the rest of the week.
The outreach is part of Red Cross efforts to help Manitobans deal with flooding. Red Cross issendinghundreds of clean-up kits to the area, which include brooms, mops and cleaning solution. Additionally, personal hygiene supplies are being provided to people who have been affected in Brandon, Virden, Sioux Valley, Ashern and Pipestone.
Red Cross is asking people to help the flood recovery efforts by making a financial donation, which can be done online at www.redcross.ca/mbflood, by calling toll-free at 1-800-418-1111, or visit their local Red Cross office. Cheques should be earmarked Manitoba floods.
