Over the past five weeks, the Canadian Red Cross has provided emergency financial assistance to more than 7,800 households that were impacted by devastating wildfires in the Maritimes. As the needs of those impacted shift to longer-term recovery, the Canadian Red Cross will now provide additional support for those most impacted by the wildfires through the
Personalized Recovery and Interim Housing Support program.
Through this program, the Red Cross will work with individuals and families to help them navigate their recovery journey. Support may include helping those impacted with planning their return home, understanding insurance and community resources, providing information and referrals, as well as providing financial assistance to access mental health services and interim housing support for those who have experienced major damage to, or the destruction of, their primary home.
A Red Cross team has already begun booking appointments with eligible households for personalized follow-up. Those interested in learning more about the Personalized Recovery and Interim Housing Support program can visit

The Canadian Red Cross continues to collaborate with impacted residents, governments and other organizations to identify needs and determine how to help people most impacted by the disaster.
QUICK FACTS:
Since May 28, 2023, the Canadian Red Cross has:
- Provided over 2,000 After the Fire and clean-up kits to support people and families in their return home.
- Distributed more than $3.9 million in emergency financial assistance to people impacted by the wildfires on behalf of the Government of Nova Scotia.
- To date, raised $5.6 million through the appeal for the Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada Fires. This amount does not include the matching funds from the Government of Canada and the Government of Nova Scotia.
