Canadian Red Cross helping people affected by Ukraine conflict

Global movement to provide emergency support underway

The Canadian Red Cross welcomes the announcement by the Government of Canada for an additional $20 million to match individual donations to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal, for a total of $30 million in matching funds.

Since the beginning, the Red Cross has been responding in Ukraine and surrounding countries with emergency assistance, and people living in Canada continue to demonstrate their generosity in supporting those affected by the conflict. Donations to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal have reached $59 million to date, not including the matching funds from the Government of Canada.

To support current and future efforts on the ground, the Canadian Red Cross has already committed $45 million to the International Red Cross response. Funds are being used to provide neutral and impartial emergency assistance such as critical medical supplies, psychosocial support, food, water, clothing, shelter, hygiene items, heating fuel, and other urgent supplies to those in need.  In addition, the Red Cross has mobilized seven Canadian humanitarian experts to support the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement operations in the region.

QUICK FACTS
The strength of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is its ability to mobilize personnel, equipment, and critical supplies to help people affected by emergencies all over the world. The Red Cross has been on the ground since before the escalation of conflict and will continue to be there to provide life-saving emergency assistance to people in Ukraine and surrounding countries.
