Canadian Red Cross appoints new Board Members

(Ottawa, August 15, 2014) The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce the appointment of six new Board Members to the Board of Directors.

The Canadian Red Cross welcomes Tami Kjerluf, Harvey Wyers, Philippe Boisvert, Trisha Gallant, Amit Mehra, and Michael Beswick.  In addition, the Canadian Red Cross welcomes Sara John Fowler as the Chair of the Board and Gavin Giles as Vice-Chair. The election of the Board takes place every two years and was held at the Society’s 105th Annual Meeting in Ottawa.

“I would like to welcome the newly appointed members of our Board of Directors, each of whom has been chosen based on their expertise, dedication and commitment to helping build a stronger Canadian Red Cross. Each year presents new opportunities and challenges for the organization as we work to improve the lives of those in need across Canada and around the world,” says Sara John Fowler, Chair of the Canadian Red Cross Board of Directors.

The Canadian Red Cross Board of Directors consists of volunteers elected from the four geographic Councils across Canada for a two year term. During these terms, members oversee the governance of the Society by reviewing its by-laws, policies, finances and helping set the Strategy for the organization.

Current members of the Canadian Red Cross Board of Directors include: Alan Dean, Dennis Chow, Peter Collens, Gavin Giles, Kathleen Mahoney, Alan Pearson, Colleen Schneider,  Peter Sloly, Mathieu Bouchard and the six newly appointed members mentioned above.

The Canadian Red Cross is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which includes the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and 189 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Our mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world.
