National Youth Engagement Advisory Committee

The National Youth Engagement Advisory Committee supports the Canadian Red Cross to implement its Youth Engagement Strategy. The committee is made up of youth and management representatives from across the country.

Members of the committee are selected every two years, but can be reappointed.

Sam VanderVeer

Spending his early childhood in Pakistan, Sam VanderVeer moved to Cobourg, Ontario where he graduated from high school, and later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia. Sam first became involved with the Canadian Red Cross in the summer of 2010 as a volunteer with the Humanitarian Issues Program in Calgary, Alberta.

Sophia El Chaar

Sophia has been involved with the Red Cross since December 2010. She has volunteered for several programs, including First Aid and International Operations, and recently had the opportunity to assist with the recruitment and deployment of volunteers during the severe flooding in Quebec. As a nominated youth representative, Sophia hopes to help increase youth engagement in the community.

Amy Mapara

Amy has been a dedicated volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross for the past 20 years, and currently works with the organization to implement the overall strategies for the Canadian Red Cross and Youth Engagement. She also works closely with the Board of Governors and helps support the Governance Committee and Nominating Committees.

Naomi Diestelkamp

Naomi first became involved with the Canadian Red Cross in 2007 as a volunteer with the Humanitarian Issues Program in St. Catharines, Ontario and at the Brock University Red Cross Youth Action Group where she acted as Vice-President. In 2009 she acted as co-chair of the National Youth Engagement Advisory Committee's working group on governance.
