Restoring Family Links: International Day of the Disappeared

Today is International Day of the Disappeared, a time to reflect on individuals around the world who continue to be reported as missing.  Each year, hundreds of thousands of people are separated from their loved ones as a result of conflict, migration and natural disasters.

Through a worldwide network of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Canadian Red Cross helps families reconnect through the Restoring Family Links program.  From tracing missing family members to delivering Red Cross Messages, which help families stay in touch after postal services have been interrupted due to violence, migration, natural disasters or other humanitarian situations, the Red Cross works diligently to help families reconnect.  Families like the Wilsons – who were reunited by the Canadian Red Cross after 53 years of separation.
