1,000 days to Millennium Development Goals

Today marks a milestone for organizations who work in international development. We’re 1,000 days away from the 2015 target date to reach the Millennium Development Goals, also known as MDGs. These goals set by the UN are meant to improve the lives of people worldwide through a variety of measures including reducing child mortality, combating diseases such as malaria and polio, eradicating extreme poverty and hunger and improving maternal, newborn and child health.

The Canadian Red Cross is working with sister Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies in countries such as Honduras, Kenya and Nicaragua to reach these goals. Some examples of our work include providing nutritional counselling and access to health care, promoting greater involvement of men in their families health activities and providing prompt and effective treatment for malaria to children who are most vulnerable.
