As part of a campaign to end violence against health workers, facilities and patients, the ICRC put together a documentary that portrays the dangerous situations that countless people encounter while working on the front lines of Libya’s recent armed conflict. André Liohn, an independent photojournalist captured the footage. His work shows in great detail the ongoing violence that doctors, nurses, and ambulance workers face when working in emergency situations such as Libya.
The documentary has scenes you’d expect to see in an action film but Jean Milligan, the head of the ICRC’s production unit explains, “except that it’s real, and what you’re seeing is a matter of life and death.”
The ICRC has been selected as an official honouree for the 16th Annual Webby Awards because of this documentary. The Webby Awards signify the national prize for excellence on the Internet. “I saw the power of humanity and the importance of letting health workers do their job safely,” said André Liohn when describing the work of the ICRC throughout the tragedy and suffering of Libya.
