Photo of the Day: A mine can change a life

Every day, we publish a photo to show the Red Cross at work across the country or around the world. Do you have a photo to share? Let us know!

A mine has changed Hosam's life in Sirte, Libya

Today is the International Day of Mine Awareness so we thought we'd share this photo of Hosam, a 14-year-old boy from Sirte, Libya, who was injured by a mine while playing soccer a few months ago. You can read more about Hosam and how he's coping with his injuries here.

The ICRC and the Libyan Red Crescent are working to remove these dangerous devices and raise awareness about their danger. Volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross are also spreading the word about the humanitarian impact of mines.  Photo credit: © ICRC / X. Hu
