The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.
THAILAND: More than 3.4 million people are still affected by Thailand’s worst flooding in more than five decades. Many communities across the country have been isolated for weeks, relying on local authorities and organizations like the Thai Red Cross for basic assistance. The Thai Red Cross has been identified as the organization that is best placed to assist migrant workers affected by these floods. In collaboration with other agencies, the Red Cross will work to address the needs of this highly vulnerable and often invisible community.
LIBYA: On November 22, the ICRC and the Libyan Red Crescent launched a three-week radio campaign to raise awareness of the risks of explosive remnants of war among the population. Since March, the ICRC has removed some 1,400 unexploded devices in places badly affected by hostilities. It has also trained over 140 Libyan Red Crescent volunteers from nine local branches to raise awareness of the threat among the local population.
