Four first aid and CPR programs offered by the Red Cross

The Canadian Red Cross is a charity organization that helps people gain skills they'll need to navigate through a range of difficult situations. From disaster preparedness to knowing what to do in the event of a first aid emergency or cardiac arrest, the programs that the Red Cross provides allows others to learn how to react during stressful incidents.

If you're eager to learn more about responding to emergencies, consider these four first aid and CPR courses offered by the Canadian Red Cross to get started. All of these courses include CPR and Automated External Defibrillator training, but they can vary in other distinct ways that can benefit you.

1. Emergency first aid and CPR
Are you lacking a basic understanding of how to dress wounds, tend to breathing and circulation emergencies, and help others when a sudden medical emergency arises? This basic one-day course can give you the general knowledge you'll need to help if incidents occur at work or at home and is the perfect introduction to providing emergency relief.

2. Standard first aid and CPR
Looking for more in-depth training on a broader range of emergencies? If so, the Standard First Aid and CPR course that the Canadian Red Cross offers may be just the thing. This comprehensive two-day course includes additional topics such as head and spine injuries, bone, muscle, and joint injuries, and poisons.

3. CPR/AED
This course focuses on CPR skills, as well as how to use an AED. There are three levels to meet a variety of needs. People who take part in the CPR/AED course can gain certification in AED usage depending on provincial legislation.

4. Advanced first aid
This course offers advanced first aid and CPR skills for workplace first aid responders. A variety of topics are covered, plus instruction dedicated to understanding workplace legislation and responsibilities.
