In Canada, springtime emergencies—like flooding—are here to stay. But that doesn’t mean we can shift all our resources to domestic crises. Abroad, people continue to be in harm’s way, and we have to find a way to protect everyone. It’s hard complex work. But with you + the Canadian Red Cross, we can do it.
In 2023, Jean from Gatineau, Quebec had his world turned upside down. The province was struck with a spring ice storm that knocked out power for days. A few short months later, massive flooding made its way into the province. Water levels rose and overflowed the streets.

With more and more emergencies happening, spring isn’t the only time when we face competing priorities. The good news is that everywhere across Canada, people just like you are coming together to support the Red Cross.
Wildfires swept through Tantallon, Nova Scotia, a suburb of Halifax, in late May and early June 2023. After supporting thousands who were forced to evacuate with lodging, financial assistance, and relief items, the journey to recovery began. The Canadian Red Cross partnered with Team Rubicon, a non-profit focused on debris removal, ash-out and sifting services, to provide them with a Mobile Emergency Lodging Emergency Response Unit.
