The Canadian Red Cross will be celebrating its official 100th anniversary in 2009.  On May 19, 1909, an act of Parliament paved the way for a Canadian Red Cross to serve Canadians.  Although the Red Cross was active in Canada prior to 1909, it operated as a branch of the British Red Cross.  For 100 years Canadians have had their own national organization focused on delivering humanitarian assistance and improving the lives of vulnerable people right across our country and around the world.

2009 will be a time to share and celebrate our past and imagine our future. The Society’s centennial year will also present volunteers, staff, community partners and average Canadians with an opportunity to tell the Red Cross story and highlight our essential work.

Right across the country, Canadian Red Cross staff, volunteers, members and donors will soon begin planning events and activities to celebrate our 100th birthday. Check this page often for more information on upcoming events in your area.

We want to hear from you!

Do you have a Red Cross story that you’d like to tell?  Got a great idea for a celebratory event in your community? Want to get involved? Send an e-mail to centennial.celebration@redcross.ca.
