Community support initiatives are programs and services that are developed to respond to specific local community needs.

In partnership with first responders, emergency managers, public officials and in collaboration with other voluntary sector organizations, the Red Cross may provide emergency and disaster services such as emergency lodging; reception and information; emergency food; emergency clothing; personal services and family reunification services.

The Canadian Red Cross Restoring Family Links program helps people in Canada re-establish contact with immediate family members after separation due to armed conflict, natural disaster, migration and other humanitarian crises.

The Swimming and Water Safety program offers swimming lessons for all ages from preschool to adults.   This program also offers Leadership development training for those interested in becoming a water safety instructor or a Red Cross Training partner.

Supported through a family crisis

The Red Cross Family Support Program provides support for parents and caregivers in times of crisis. At British Columbia’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) we make a tremendous difference in the lives of many, including Krystal’s, whose baby was born with holes in his heart.
