“The Red Cross is thrilled to honour Duna Barber and Alix Norum for their dedication and efforts to make their communities a better place for everyone and inspiring others to do the same,” said Tammy Doerksen, Manager of Corporate and Community Engagement for the Canadian Red Cross.

Quick Facts:

  • Duna Barber will receive the 2018 Regina Humanitarian of the Year Award for her long-standing dedication to improving her community. As a busy mother of six children, wife of a university president and a nurse on the maternity ward, Duna always made time to give back through activities such as sitting on many boards, regularly donating blood, mentoring women and serving as a volunteer first responder. Duna also believes in investing in organizations and causes that are near and dear to her and her family’s heart. St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, STARS, Carmichael Outreach, Canadian Red Cross and the University of Regina are just some of the local organizations that benefit from Duna’s generosity.
  • Alix Norum will receive the 2018 Regina Young Humanitarian of the Year Award for her lifelong dedication to helping others. From a young age, Alix worked to help others doing everything from canvassing for the Terry Fox Run to making activity bags for children at the Cancer Centre in Saskatoon to sending care packages to children in Afghanistan. In the ninth grade she discovered her passion for working with individuals with abilities through her involvement with the Caring, Helping, U and Me Sharing (CHUMS) program. While she attends university, Alix has worked extensively to support individuals with intellectual and complex physical disabilities through organizations such as Camp Easter Seal, Astonished!, Best Buddies and Next Chapter Book Club.
  • The Gala will be held at the Ramada Plaza Regina on Jan. 11, 2019.
  • Individual tickets are $150.
  • A table of eight is $1,200.
  • Tickets can be purchased online at redcross.ca/skgala or by calling 306-721-1600.
