Funding appeal launched to help people impacted by the flooding
In support of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), the Canadian Red Cross is encouraging people evacuated due to flooding in Fort McMurray and the surrounding area to register with the Red Cross Call Centre at 1-800-863-6582, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. MT.
People who have already registered with the RMWB, or are staying with family and friends, are encouraged to also register with Red Cross. Registration with Red Cross ensures people are accounted for, can be contacted while away from home, and can be reached with information and assistance on further services that may be available during this time of need.
Additionally, the Canadian Red Cross launched the Fort McMurray & Area Floods Fund to help those affected by severe flooding in the region. Money raised by the Red Cross will assist affected individuals and communities with flooding relief, recovery, resiliency, and risk reduction support.
Canadians wishing to make a donation are encouraged to contribute to the Fort McMurray & Area Floods Fund online at
www.redcross.ca, or by calling 1-800-418-1111.
