The Canadian Red Cross is mobilizing to meet the needs in Attawapiskat. Several families are living in tents or or makeshift wooden shelters and are urgently in need of immediate assistance. The Canadian Red Cross is working closely with the community and public authorities to assess needs and determine the best course of action and where the Red Cross can support.
At the request of the community, the Canadian Red Cross has agreed to take on a donation management role. Financial donations will be used to support the Red Cross in helping meet immediate needs of families in Attawapiskat including the provision of emergency supplies such as heaters, blankets, generators, insulated sleeping mats and winter clothing.
Canadians wishing to make a financial donation may give online at www.redcross.ca, call 1-800-418-1111 or contact their local Canadian Red Cross office. Cheques should be made payable to the Canadian Red Cross, earmarked "Attawapiskat" and mailed to the Canadian Red Cross National Office, 400 Cooper Street, Suite 8000, Ottawa, Ontario K2P 2H8.
