Landmines and the Environment

  titleline

Wherever they are deployed, mines outlast their military objectives. For decades, waterways, beaches, forests, mountains, deserts and fields remain infested by unmarked mine fields. When mines limit the use of agricultural and grazing lands, people are pushed into fragile and marginal land which can quickly harm their environment. People are also be driven into cities, contributing to over-crowding, unemployment and other urban problems.
