Chinese Christian Mission (CCM) Canada and Canadian Red Cross signed a memorandum of understanding today that will bring Red Cross first aid training to more people. CCM is now the first official organization in the country that will be offering Canadian Red Cross first aid instruction in Chinese languages.

The MOU also opens the door for a Ready When the Time Comes agreement which will see CCM provide volunteers to the Red Cross to help in times of significant need, including during responses to disasters such as forest fires, floods, or an earthquake. The agreement also addresses fundraising support for Red Cross, disaster volunteer recruitment and training, disaster preparedness workshops, and plans to deliver information on the Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program.

Quick Facts:
  • CCM will deliver first aid training opportunities through its network of more than 200 churches and the Chinese Canadian community at large across Canada.

Quotes:

Thomas Tam, Chinese Christian Mission Executive Director:
“CCM Centre is committed to serve the disadvantaged and less fortunate people in the community. The historic partnership with Canadian Red Cross will definitely enhance the participation among the Chinese Canadian community in natural disaster relief work, first aid training and safety education. Together, we will build a stronger caring community”

Kimberley Nemrava, Canadian Red Cross Vice President, B.C. & Yukon:
“The Red Cross is so pleased to be partnering with CCM who provide so many excellent programs in their communities. This partnership will make first aid training available in Mandarin or Cantonese for those more comfortable learning in those languages. First aid training makes our communities more resilient. It empowers people to help their family, friends and neighbours with lifesaving skills that could be needed at any time, especially in disasters.”

Kimberley Nemrava:
