Risk Advisor-Knowledge Resources (12 months)

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking a Risk Advisor, Knowledge Resources.

As part of the shared Risk Management Common Office - “The Commons”, you will contribute standards and excellence in risk management across the Society and in our response operations. Working in a collaborative team approach, the Commons team will support corporate risk functions such as risk and enterprise risk management, incident management while also supporting Society operations and response in areas related to tracking  and analytics, reporting, standards and tool development, training, incident triage, and areas related to quality.  The Risk Commons team will have a deliverables and dual reporting to the Director of Risk and the Director of Incidents, Insurance and Risk.

The Risk Advisor, Knowledge Resources will have subject matter expertise in risk management with a focus and proven experience in tools and resources development. Reporting to Sr Risk Advisor, Standards and Projects, the Risk Advisor Knowledge Resources will engage with various risk, security and incident SMEs in the development of relevant training and associated materials. Tools and guidance development will be linked to risk services areas of excellence and will be provided to the Society as reference, this includes learning resources, framework overviews, templates, guides and factsheets.

Responsibility 1 – Risk Services tool and training development

  • Lead coordination with relevant risk SMEs to gather, coordination, and integrate information into risk resources and guidance. This includes leading the design and development of standardized key resources, templates (such as PowerPoint, factsheets, etc.) and training.
  • Review and edit final versions of both English and French resources ensuring consistency in messaging and language, working in close coordination with relevant SMEs.
  • Coordinate with Risk and lead workplan for resource development based on identified upcoming needs including to address any current gaps.
  • Lead coordination with other Society stakeholders such as operations, programs and learning and development to dovetail training and resources as well as to tailor resources accordingly for unique needs.
  • Develop and maintain a risk key events calendar including major risk initiatives, orientations, and trainings, engaging key SMEs to ensure appropriate coverage and maintenance of risk training statistics.
  • Working closely with SMEs to schedule and support recording of trainings; ensuring that recorded trainings and associated materials are easily accessible including on shared sites (SharePoint and Risk InfoSite)
  • Update and maintain master tracker of risk resources such factsheets, quick reference guidance, templates, as well as identifying key dates for updating

Responsibility 2 – Risk initiative / training delivery and support

  • Working with SMEs, the advisor will lead and deliver agreed upon risk initiative such as orientations and training, this can include video recording the final version of training in both English and French.
  • Lead coordination of administrative and logistics support for key risk initiatives such as learning videos and major multi-day trainings / simulation.
  • Develop messaging and materials for participants, tracking and following up with participants that pre-requisite needs have been met.
  • Working with lead SME develop initiative / training budget including updating of actual expenses.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

 

Education and Experience

  • University degree in international relations / development, political science, risk / incident management, law or a combination of education and experience that would be considered equivalent.
  • Five years of relevant in areas related to risk / incident management, non-profit, international development / humanitarian aid field contexts.
  • Experience supporting and coordinating the development of major initiatives, development resources and tools.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engaging, including with Senior Leadership.
  • Experience in monitoring and reporting risks and incidents including those related to area of higher risk and application of best practices.
  • Knowledge of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and non-profit organizations is considered an asset.

  • Bilingualism in English / French with excellent communication written and verbal communications mandatory.
  • Demonstrated experience providing training and in facilitating workshops with cross-functional and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and ability to anticipate barriers and opportunities.
  • Capability to manage multiple demands and effectively manage change in fast paced environment.
  • Self driven, able to work independently and coordinate with others as required.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and reprioritize tasks in response to unexpected changes.
  • Cross cultural sensitivity and diversity awareness.
  • Strong Microsoft Word skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours on short notice.
  • Commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement and values of humanitarian work.
  • Valid Driver’s License and valid provincial health care coverage.

WORKING CONDITIONS​

  • The majority of the work is performed in a clean and comfortable environment.
  • May include long to moderate hours sitting and using computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours on short notice.
  • Ability to work in stressful and often ambiguous conditions.
  • This position may require domestic or overseas travel to attend conferences, workshops and meetings as required.
