Video: Canadian Red Cross in Syria

We wanted to share this video footage of the recent visit to Syria by Canadian Red Cross Secretary General and CEO, Conrad Sauvé, and Director of Emergencies and Recovery for International Operations, Hossam Elsharkawi. The Canadian Red Cross has been providing support to its sister society, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), as it continues to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid to people affected by the on-going conflict.

Canadian Red Cross field mission to Syria

Photo of the Day: Syrian Arab Red Crescent delivers aid to Homs

This past weekend, trucks from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent stocked with humanitarian aid entered the old city of Homs. While these trucks were clearly marked with the protective red crescent, shots were fired, targeting the aid workers. The team was able to exit Homs safely although one of the truck drivers was injured.

Syria infographic: Three years of conflict

Three years have passed since the crisis in Syria began and humanitarian needs are greater than ever. The violence has escalated and the impact has left civilians to suffer. Most of the population has been affected by the violence and it has taken a tremendous toll on families who have been forced to move, often multiple times. According to OCHA, some 9.3 million people are in need of humanitarian aid.
