At the beginning of last summer, Josh Windsor was a computer drafting student; by the fall, he had completely changed his career direction and was starting his first semester working towards a degree in Emergency Management. 
 

When Bavleen Kaur moved to Winnipeg from India, she wanted to volunteer in her new community. Her attention was captured by the Canadian Red Cross SmartStart program, which teaches injury prevention to newcomers to Canada. She ended up applying her newfound safety skills almost immediately.

In an average month, personal disaster assistance teams respond to about 6 requests for assistance. But this July, our Winnipeg volunteers supported a massive 21 personal disasters.
 

Pierre Paquet has been a Red Cross response volunteer since October 2019, helping people and communities affected by house fires, floods and other emergencies. He shares his story and how Red Cross is helping in Montreal during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When COVID-19 gripped the country, locking down everything, Jean-Anne Booker wondered how it would affect her volunteer work with the Canadian Red Cross. It turned out that there was no need for concern as the Red Cross quickly pivoted to continue to provide much-needed assistance. It also turned out that Jean-Anne had one of her busiest summers since she started volunteering with Red Cross four years ago.

There was a bit of a surprising silver lining to the COVID-19 pandemic for a Saskatchewan-based Canadian Red Cross volunteer Alex Bull. The move to virtual-based volunteering has taken her from “barely” able to turn on a computer to supervising a team of Safety and Wellbeing volunteers using technology.
 

Even during COVID-19, the Red Cross is on the ground, helping where we're needed.
