For many years, the Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan has been one of the major providers of healthcare in Turkmenistan. With support from the British Red Cross, the Community-Based Health and First Aid (CBHFA) program has been advocating for healthy lifestyles and training the population in first aid skills for the past ten years.
More than 1,000 volunteers – about one third of all Red Crescent volunteers in Turkmenistan - are currently involved in first aid training. Since the start of the program 10 years ago, the National Society has been working on training trainers, and through them, passing on the information to activists from local communities through the peer-to-peer education. And these, in turn, transfer first aid skills to the residents of their communities.
