MYANMAR: Myanmar Red Cross Society volunteers are providing emergency health care to people injured in unrest
in the northwestern state of Raakhine, as well as helping displaced people make contact with their families. Volunteers have been providing first aid and the Red Cross ambulance service has been used to evacuate more serious cases to healthcare facilities. So far, the Red Cross Restoring Family Links service has assisted 72 people to make contact with their families and confirm their safety.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: The Dominican Red Cross has launched a series of programs which promote good hygiene to counter the threat from cholera. To date, the Cholera Operation in Dominican Republic has carried out a comprehensive prevention and control program directly reaching 361,230 people. To provide this support, 150 Dominican Red Cross volunteers received training in psychosocial support. Volunteers also contributed to the Dominican Red Cross youth volunteer program by helping to spread the hygiene message to children in 10 urban communities, using games, puppets, and performances. In addition, the Dominican Red Cross is using technology to spread the word. It has sent 1.9 million disease prevention and awareness text messages to more than 1.5 million mobile phone users.
