The Red Cross Round-up

The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.

NEW ZEALAND: Staff and volunteers from the New Zealand Red Cross took part in a variety of memorial events to mark the one year anniversary of the deadly 6.3 magnitude earthquake that claimed the lives of 185 people on February 22, 2011.  The earthquake resulted in the largest relief and recovery program in the history of the New Zealand Red Cross which has so far helped 76,463 affected individuals and households.

AFGHANISTAN: Over the last couple of weeks, the Afghan Red Crescent Society, with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has helped almost 2,000 families in Kabul through the coldest winter for 15 years. The organization has distributed blankets and clothes.

CYPRUS: On February 23, the ICRC recognized the Cyprus Red Cross Society as the 188th National Society of the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.
