The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.
ETHIOPIA: The Ethiopian Red Cross has launched an emergency appeal to fund immediate actions such as distributing food and water, and also to invest in community livelihoods for long-term solutions.
SOMALIA: The ICRC is scaling up its emergency operation in central and southern Somalia to assist an additional 1.1 million drought- and conflict-affected people.
KENYA: The KRCS recently launched a campaign titled, ‘Kenyans for Kenya’ together with businesses, corporations and media outlets. In less than three weeks, the campaign has raised approximately five million US dollars. Kenyans for Kenya aims to raise money that the KRCS will use to deliver immediate food, water and health assistance to those suffering from the drought. Funding will also support long-term initiatives, in order to reduce vulnerability of communities to future droughts.
