The Red Cross Round-up

The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.

PHILIPPINES: The Philippine Red Cross has delivered assistance to thousands of residents affected by floods and landslides. Heavy rains continued for over three weeks, drenching localities that would normally receive below average rainfall at this period of the year.

EGYPT: One week into protests in Egypt, the ICRC is working together with the Egyptian Red Crescent Society to gain a clearer picture of the humanitarian situation and the resulting needs.

AUSTRALIA: The Red Cross in Queensland, Australia rapidly scaled up operations as Cyclone Yasi pounded parts of Northeast Australia with winds up to 290 km/hr. Local Red Cross volunteers have been working around the clock assisting in multiple evacuation centres and helping families in affected communities connect with loved ones.
