The Red Cross Round-up

The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.

UGANDA: In response to several cholera outbreaks, the Rural Water and Sanitation Program managed by Uganda Red Cross Society and supported by Danish Red Cross and the European Union has been implemented in the districts of Ntoroko, Bulisa, Kabarole, Kasese and Hoima.  This program is bringing clean water and hygiene  promotion, and has a massive impact on communities.

NAMIBIA: In addition to public health concerns due to lack of water, providing education to children is a huge challenge as communities constantly relocate leaving schools unoccupied. With financial support from the Swedish and Belgian-Flanders Red Cross societies, the Namibia Red Cross has begun a massive water and sanitation programme under the campaign, ‘Water is Life’.

PAKISTAN: It’s been more than two months since Sindh, the southern province of Pakistan, was hit by record monsoon rains that flooded vast expanses of land, destroying homes and valuable crops. The Red Crescent continues to respond and is providing tents, cooking utensils, hygiene kits and blankets through distribution centers.
