The Red Cross Round-up

The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.

BANGKOK: Since flooding began in late June, the Thai Red Cross has distributed more than 175,000 family kits and almost two million bottles of drinking water. Volunteers and staff have been active in 36 provinces, and have carried out some distributions in the flood affected northern suburbs of Bangkok.

CHAD: Cholera is affecting 37 of Chad’s 61 districts and claiming thousands of lives. The Red Cross of Chad, supported by the IFRC, has sent almost one thousand volunteers into communities to spread the word about how to stop the cholera epidemic.

CAMBODIA: More than 1.2 million people have been affected by flooding in 17 of Cambodia’s 24 provinces since August but amidst the misery of these record floods, there are also stories of hope. A 14-year-old girl who was missing for six days in Kompong Thom province has been reunited with her family by the Cambodian Red Cross Society. As of October 20, over 21,000 families in Kompong Thom have received flood relief assistance from Cambodian Red Cross Society.
