The Red Cross Round-up

The Round-up offers a weekly sample of what our sister Red Cross Societies are working on around the world.

THAILAND: Almost 2.3 million people have been affected as nearly four months of heavy flooding has washed its way down from Thailand’s Northern provinces to the outskirts of the capital of Bangkok. The Thai Red Cross has been responding to these floods since late June. So far, volunteers and staff have reached more than 500,000 people in 32 of the 60 flooded provinces.

CHAD: The Community Health team at the Chad Red Cross has set its sights on helping people avoid spreading cholera by promoting some simple rules of hygiene. The team has a clear goal: to take the hygiene message to 65,000 people and help them guard against the risk of cholera.

MOZAMBIQUE: The Mozambique Red Cross Society (MRCS) has partnered with the Government’s Ministry of Youth and Sport to provide first aid assistance to athletes during the 10th All-Africa Games. Under the government agreement, MRCS trained volunteers in first aid for the games, and provided them with the first aid kits and equipment to deliver a world class service.
