The Canadian Red Cross (CRC) strives to provide help and support to those found in vulnerable situations by providing much needed support to those who need it the most. We are currently seeking volunteers to join our Community Health & Wellness team as a Mobile Food Bank Driver’s Assistant.  

This role provides support to people impacted by food insecurity in the Toronto area by delivering food packages to clients in need of assistance.

As a member of this delivery team, communication with the appropriate Red Cross personnel, such as the delivery driver and program coordinator, is essential. In addition to working with CRC personnel, this role requires communication with clients to ensure preparedness for delivery. The Assistant is responsible for loading the vehicle for delivery, providing navigation support, and assists with transporting food to the client’s door.

As a vital member of this team, you will be required to complete necessary documentation, provide feedback to the supervisor, provide support to the delivery driver and Follow Health & Safety Protocols.

As a Driver’s Assistant Responder, you will bring many talents, including:  

  • Customer service skills and active listening skills.
  • Empathetic, calm, and professional approach to client’s needs.
  • Good communication skills and must be able to deliver services in English.
  • Strong team player with fellow Red Cross personnel.
  • Attention to detail in recording delivery notes.
  • Understanding of safe food handling practices.
  • Empathy and compassion in working with those found in vulnerable situations.
  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs (23 kgs).

Where and when you would volunteer:  

  • The depot located at 557 Dixon Rd. Unit 110 Etobicoke with deliveries in the Toronto area.
  • Weekdays during office hours
  • Six month commitment (minimum).
Volunteering for this position can be done by those 18 or older. 

This position will require a satisfactory Enhanced Police Information Check or equivalent. 

At this time, the CRC has temporarily suspended our Covid-19 vaccination policy and does not require, but continues to strongly encourage full vaccination of all our personnel.
