Frequently Asked Questions

Packing a suitcase in anticipation for a one-week conference is never easy ... well, for some! Here are some "tips" to help you plan your wardrobe.

  • A few everyday outfits: If you're wondering what to wear during the day's plenaries, ask yourself this question: "Would I wear this at the office?" If the answer is no, it might be better to opt for another outfit.
  • Weather alert: This isn’t a surprise, this is Canada and our weather is unpredictable. So check the Calgary weather forecast before you travel and be sure to bring appropriate clothing.
  • From your rain boots to your most beautiful clothes! Your planning committee is working very hard to provide you with fun activities to fill your evenings. Check out the Events section on the PhilCon2020 website closer to the event. The final schedule will be available no later than two weeks before we arrive at the Grey Eagle Resort.
  • Be kind to your feet: Make sure you have comfortable shoes for all occasions. At the end of the week, your feet will thank you.
  • Important Note: One night will be a free evening for all attendees. The organizing committee will propose activities for which you will be free to participate, at your own expense.

A healthy mind in a healthy body! If you want to strengthen your body when we aren’t exercising our minds, the Grey Eagle Resort has very well-equipped fitness facilities. Whether running, cycling, lifting weights or swimming, you’ll definitely be able to stay fit all week!

All travel will be coordinated through Direct Travel, please don’t book until advised.

If you have not already done so, please communicate your restrictions, specificities or food allergies right away by emailing PhilCon@redcross.ca

As we have a lot of attendees, the rooms are allocated directly by the hotel staff according to what you indicated in the registration form: I like to wake up early or I like to stay up late. Please note that all rooms are single occupancy so you will have all the privacy you want.

There is strict NO Smoking policy in the Grey Eagle Event Centre and hotel suites. Vapour and E-Cigs are also not allowed, you must respect the outside provided areas provided for this purpose. The Tobacco and Smoking Reduction Act is very strict and if you get caught, you may have to pay a ticket.

A "hospitality suite" will be available every evening. You will find snack foods, but everyone is responsible for their own alcoholic beverages.

We count on your usual civility.

We strongly recommend that anyone who has a laptop please bring it. You will not need it during the various workshops, but if a major appeal occurs, we will be ready to react quickly.

No, if you have to work, you can do it from your rooms or in the public areas of the hotel.

If you plan to do offsite activities, they should be done before or after the conference or during the free evening. We remind you, however, that all activities that are not organized by the committee as part of the conference will be entirely the responsibility of the employee.
