Mullinder brings extensive experience with the Red Cross, including seven years as the lead of the province’s philanthropy team, and five years as a Red Cross Ambassador while he was a defensive lineman with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Building on the strong relationships he has with Red Cross supporters, communities and volunteers, Mullinder is committed to mobilizing the power of community by continuing to enhance the understanding of the work of the Red Cross in Saskatchewan in emergency preparedness and response, violence prevention, water safety and first aid.

Born in New Zealand and raised in Ontario, Mullinder attended Michigan State University on a football scholarship and graduated with a degree in Family and Community Services. He was drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2004, where he played eight of his nine Canadian Football League seasons, winning a Grey Cup in 2007.

While playing with the Roughriders, Mullinder worked as a Red Cross Ambassador during the off season, speaking with youth across the province about bullying prevention and leading support opportunities for various youth-focused workshops and training symposiums.

Under Mullinder’s leadership, the Red Cross has had great success in attracting support for its work from various sectors in Saskatchewan, including from corporations, foundations and individual contributors. His philanthropy team has accomplished several successful events and campaigns – including the annual Red Gala and Power of Humanity events – raising funds for disaster response, violence prevention and other Red Cross programs in Saskatchewan.

In addition to his work with the Red Cross, Mullinder has also maintained his connection to football as a colour commentator and radio sports analyst.

He will assume his new role on November 9, 2020, and looks forward to meeting with local authorities, Indigenous leaders, partners, and provincial/territorial governments to continue Red Cross work in the region.
