2019 Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year announced

The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce that John Hopkins is the recipient of the 2019 Regina Humanitarian of the Year award. Hopkins will receive the award at the annual Power of Humanity Awards Reception in Regina on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019.

This year’s Power of Humanity event will be an evening reception, featuring appetizers from around the world.

  • John Hopkins will receive the 2019 Regina Humanitarian of the Year award for his dedication to helping others by promoting health and building peace through reconciliation.
    • Early in life John struggled with an addictions issue that left him homeless on several occasions. Since getting clean over 35 years ago John has become a strong advocate for recovery programs and helping others through the recovery process.
    • John has also demonstrated his dedication to reconciliation by being a founding member of Reconciliation Regina, organizing the annual Smudge Walk in north-central Regina and working alongside Cowessess First Nation in a variety of ways.
    • He helped shape the Regina Homelessness Strategy and served on numerous boards and councils. John also advocates for mental health and raises money for the Allan Blair Cancer Centre.
    • He is extremely passionate about music, physical fitness and his family which includes his wife Taya and his six children.
  • The Power of Humanity Awards Reception will be held at the Ramada Plaza Regina on Nov. 8, 2019.
  • Individual tickets are $75.
  • A bundle of eight tickets is $500.

  • Proceeds from the event will fund Red Cross programs and services across Saskatchewan.
