Through the PFD Loan Program, the Canadian Red Cross aims to prevent drowning by increasing the availability of PFDs/life jackets and educating the public on how to use them. Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) and lifejackets are available for loan at no cost in more than 20 communities throughout Atlantic Canada. High-quality, certified PFDs/life jackets are available on a short-term basis, for use by children, youth and adults taking part in activities in or around water. Wearing a properly fitted PFD/life jacket is a key component of water safety. Injuries, disorientation and cold-water shock can affect your ability to swim to shore, even if you are an experienced swimmer.
