Anne Whelan, MBA, ICD.D.

Anne WhelanAnne Whelan is a Placentia native whose Seafair Capital group of companies provides care for hundreds of people among the most vulnerable populations in Newfoundland and Labrador including seniors, children, youth and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Whelan has supported charitable causes and organizations including the Canadian Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Healthcare Foundation, Memorial University, Kids Eat Smart, the Boys and Girls Club, the Canadian Red Cross, and Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador. She is a sought-after public speaker on community engagement and entrepreneurship especially by women, and as part of 2016 Asia Pacific Economic Council meetings in Peru spent several days mentoring women entrepreneurs and addressing some 4,000 participants at a forum on women and the economy.
The St. John’s resident holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master’s in Business Administration from Memorial University. She is respected for a thought-provoking but down-to-earth leadership style that promotes excellence in caring, continuous improvement and a commitment to helping people in Newfoundland and Labrador to live happier, healthier lives.
Whelan entered the business world working for and later buying her mother’s home-care agency, CareGivers Inc., and is the founder and CEO of Seafair Group, whose companies include CareGivers, Blue Sky, Momentum, Health Quest and others that collectively employ more than 800 people.  She chairs the board of directors of Newfoundland Power, serves on the board of CSA Group and is director for the Bank of Canada. Previously, she served on the boards of the Business Development Bank of Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Oil and Gas Industries Association, and the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council.
Whelan was named by the Toronto-based Women’s Executive Network to its 2016 list of Canada’s 100 most powerful women.
