Senator Murray Sinclair will receive the 2019 Canadian Red Cross Humanitarian Award in Manitoba for his tireless work towards reconciliation and inspiring others to do their part for reconciliation. He served as Co-Chair of the Aboriginal Justice Inquiry in Manitoba and as Chief Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Senator Sinclair has also volunteered for numerous organizations including Scouts Canada, the John Howard Society, and the Ma Mawi Wi Chitata Centre. He has received honorary doctorates from more than a dozen Canadian universities.
Senator Sinclair served the justice system in Manitoba for more than 25 years. He was the first Aboriginal associate chief justice appointed in Manitoba and the second Aboriginal judge in Canada. He was appointed to the Senate on April 2, 2016.
