Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) and the Canadian Red Cross are partnering to help others.

Since 2005, support from MEC members has made it possible for the Co-op to donate over $200,000 to Canadian Red Cross initiatives such as emergency responses to wildfires and floods in Canada, and to major disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis globally.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic MEC has designed Canada’s first Fair Trade Certified non-surgical mask, made with washable, recycled fabric. With these impactful masks, MEC continues to uphold health and safety standards within their outdoor community and supply chain.

All proceeds from MEC’s mask sales have been donated to the Canadian Red Cross, for a total of $125,000. The entirety of the donation will be put towards the Canadian Emergencies and COVID-19 Response fund. Through relationships with government agencies and widespread community partnerships, Red Cross is adapting to assist as this crisis evolves and leveraging this fund wherever the need is greatest.

With a shared core value of humanity, MEC and the Canadian Red Cross are helping people who are largely impacted during this unprecedented health emergency.

The Canadian Red Cross is grateful for partners like MEC who uncover new ways of giving back to the community and help us help others.
