Emergency Management

Emergency management staff and volunteers with Red Cross in Alberta remain committed to assisting people and communities affected by emergencies and disasters, both personal and on a large scale like wildfires and floods.

In Alberta in 2020-21, the Red Cross assisted 1,257 people after a disaster and responded to 284 personal disasters such as house fires. Throughout the pandemic, Red Cross has adjusted the way it assists people and families to ensure help is there during emergency responses while complying with public health orders and safeguarding everyone’s health. Red Cross continues to work collaboratively with community partners and build new relationships.

Additionally, Red Cross also worked with communities on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives. In Alberta, 166 people participated in DRR workshops to help families be ready and more self-sufficient after a disaster or emergency.
