Through our Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP), the Canadian Red Cross loans items such as wheelchairs, crutches, canes and other equipment to help empower people who are able to recover at home from illnesses and other health issues. In 2019-20, Red Cross loaned more than 51,000 pieces of health equipment to about 28,000 Albertans.
As awareness of the COVID-19 pandemic began unfolding, Red Cross quickly began implementing physical distancing and public health protocols at HELP sites and adapted its procedures to ensure equipment pick-up and drop-off was by appointment only, so staff, volunteers, and clients were kept safe.
